Madonna di Campiglio is known as the pearl of the Dolomites. It sits in a valley at 1550 metres in the Brenta Dolomites, on the borders of the Adamello Brenta National Park. Planned and built with meticulous attention to detail , the town's activities all revolve around the traffic free zone of Piazza Righi. Traditional little stubes and bars beckon you with the aromas of Italian coffee,and freshly baked cornetti and pastries. From the centre of town, the ski lifts fan out in all directions, whisking you comfortably to the vast snow fields above the tree line, and onto the sun drenched slopes.

Since its conception as a ski resort in 1955, Madonna di Campiglio has grown into a world class resort, with a comprehensive range of hotels and lodgings to suit all tastes. The whole resort has a wonderful Tyrolean feel to it, with a deserved reputation for exclusivity.

Italians love their food, and Madonna di Campiglio is no exception. The resort boasts some of the finest restaurants to be found anywhere in Italy. Several of these are in hotels where non-residents are welcome.

An extravaganza of shops and boutiques surround the main piazza and stretch out along the Viale Dolomiti. Those exquisite aromas are everywhere, eminating from coffee bars, and enotece as you browse the local crafts, fashion boutiques, ski shops, food emporiums and jewellery stores.

Once the private playground of Emperor Franz Josef Ostereicher and his beautiful consort , the Empress ' Sissi' , Madonna di Campiglio still exudes an air of relaxed sophistication and this feeling spills over into the evening. There are relaxing wine bars and piano bars, where you can pleasantly wile away the hours with a glass or two of fine wine or cocktails. The resort also has it's share of lively night clubs, where you can let your hair down until the early hours.


Boasting some of the finest eateries and restaurants in the Dolomites, offering everything from the humble pizza to tantalising culinary feasts, Madonna di Campiglio continually reminds you that this is Italy at it's best. Traditional dishes include mouth watering antipasti, hearty stews, roasted meats, smoked fish, delicious spicy sausage, fresh vegetables and the world renowned beef 'Fiorentina'. Shopping in Madonna di Campiglio is concentrated around the main piazza and along the pedestrianised zone on the Viale Dolomiti. Fashion boutiques, craft shops, supermarkets, jewellery stores and sports shops are all punctuated with cosy little bars and coffee shops. Several banks, all with ATM machines are conveniently located in the main shopping area and all the shops accept major credit/debit cards.


The resort regularly plays host to major ski and snowboard events including the FIS Freestyle World Championships, ladies' World Cup Slalom and several major snowboard championships. The winter programme includes an annual vintage car rally and the famous Emperor's Grand Costume Ball held in the hunting lodge, built for Franz Josef in the 19th Century.
